Dr. Carol Master

After a two-year hiatus, Dr. Carol Master returned to TABC in 2022. She has taught AP English Language & Composition, American and British literature, the classics, and public speaking, and has served as Chair of the English Department. She spearheaded the effort to arrange theater trips to plays that dovetail with the literature being taught in various classes. To advance her belief that only through performance can Shakespeare’s plays truly be appreciated, she introduced her junior class to Shakesperience at a Folger Library theater festival that took place at Rider University, in which, under her guidance, her class performed (and won awards for) scenes from The Merchant of Venice. More recently, she served as faculty advisor for Envision Shakespeare, a yeshiva league Shakespeare competition, in which the students are tasked with performing one scene from a specific Shakespearean play, without the help of expressive costumes or props. Having attended two Advanced Placement summer institutes for AP English Language and Composition and other various professional development seminars, she successfully implemented the programs into her classes. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she also worked in College Guidance, where, aside from assisting students with the college process, she initiated the Jewish Life on Campus program, an evening designed to introduce the juniors and seniors to the vibrant Jewish life that exists on many secular college campuses. She was one of the key personnel who ran the popular annual Book Day at TABC, a full day of communal learning that included workshops, speakers, and cultural activities. Dr. Master graduated from New York University summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, and has both MA and PhD degrees from Columbia University.
