Dr. Carol Master

After a two-year hiatus, Dr. Carol Master returned to TABC in 2022. During her many years at TABC, she has served as Chair of the English Department, taught nearly every English course offered, and introduced several courses to the curriculum, including AP English Language and Composition and Public Speaking. Dr. Master has long sought opportunities to bring literature to life beyond the classroom. She spearheaded theater trips connected to works being studied in TABC classes and, guided by her belief that Shakespeare is best appreciated through performance, introduced her junior class to Shakesperience, a Folger Shakespeare Library theater festival held at Rider University. Under her guidance, students performed scenes from The Merchant of Venice and received awards for their performances. More recently, she has served as faculty advisor for Envision Shakespeare, a yeshiva league competition in which students perform a scene from a Shakespeare play without relying on elaborate costumes or props. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Master has worked in College Guidance, where she supported students through the college process and launched Jewish Life on Campus, an evening program introducing juniors and seniors to the vibrant Jewish communities available on many college campuses. She also helped lead TABC's annual Book Day, a full day of communal learning featuring workshops, speakers, and cultural activities. Dr. Master currently serves as the English learning specialist in TABC's Learning Center. She graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from New York University and earned both her MA and PhD from Columbia University.
